Amanda McGovern, Founder & Director
Amanda became Todd’s wife and caregiver in very fast order in 2004, assuming the role of advocate/motivator/dietician when Todd was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Colorectal Cancer just six weeks after their wedding. With a Master’s Degree in English Education, Amanda began her career as an English Teacher at the French-American International School in Boston. In 2004, Amanda left teaching to become Todd’s full time caregiver. In 2007, Amanda and Todd agreed that it would be best to establish some sort of normalcy despite Todd’s intense treatment schedules. Her passion for foreign languages landed Amanda a job with Cartier North America as the Executive Assistant to the President and CEO. During her seven years with Cartier, Amanda held a variety of positions; most recently, Amanda served as Cartier’s Manager of Network Development. As Director of Seas It, Amanda remains focused on both the patient and caregiver’s need for healthy distractions from cancer in order to be emotionally and physically strong while fighting the disease. She will proudly represent Seas It at cancer centers nationwide where Seas It will establish partnerships.
Amanda brings to Seas It her strong organizational and personal skills, event planning experience, development and fundraising expertise, and her innate ability to bring people together. As an avid traveler, dedicated athlete, and mother of twin toddlers, Amanda embodies Todd’s, and now Seas It’s, motto of “living a little each day.”
Jeni Howe, Director of Programs
In June 2010, Jeni asked what she could do to help Amanda and Todd, who was back in the hospital fighting cancer. Amanda’s reply: “Get out there and do something. Everyday. Because Todd would do anything to be able to.” After nearly a thousand runs, ten races, and thousands of dollars raised for Seas It, Jeni became Seas It’s Patient Services Coordinator in January 2013. She stepped in for Todd when he went on hospice so that Seas It could continue to realize Todd’s vision.
With a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy, clinical experience in hospitals, and a background in the non-profit sector promoting independence for people with physical disabilities, Jeni has the professional skills and personal commitment to oversee Seas It’s grants and events as Seas It’s Director of Programs.
